Zim Covid-19 positivity rate continues to increase

ZIMBABWE’S Covid-19 positivity rate continues to be on an upward trend after the country on Monday recorded 2 661 new cases.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health and Child Care the positivity rate rose from 20,2 percent on Sunday to 37,8 percent.

The positivity rate is the number of tests that come out positive compared to the total number if tests done.

“2 661 new cases and 51 deaths were reported, seven day rolling day average for new cases rises to 2 058 from 1 898.  7 037 tests done, positivity rate today (Monday) was 37,8 percent.

“1 315 new recoveries: national recovery rate stands at 67 percent and active cases go up to 21258. As of 12 July, Zimbabwe has recorded 70 426 cases, 46 932 recoveries and 2 236 deaths,” reads the update.

In terms of hospitalisation, the Ministry revealed that as of 11 July there were 753 hospitalised cases: new admissions 90, asymptomatic 209, mild to moderate 439, severe 77 and 28 in Intensive Care Units.

Mashonaland West has the highest number of Covid-19 deaths at 13 followed Bulawayo at 11 while Harare province had the third highest at 9.

“National Case fatality Rate now stands at 3,2 percent. Harare has the highest incidence per capita followed by Bulawayo and Matabeleland South. Masvingo and Midlands have the lowest incidence of Covid per capita,” said the Ministry.
