THE Zimbabwe Under-19 women’s team is in Botswana today where they will take part in a four-nation tournament in Gaborone from today until Monday. They will join Mozambique, Namibia and the hosts in the tournament with the four sides playing 40-over matches against each other in a round-robin format.
The one that finishes top of the log wins the tournament.
The squad was boosted by the availability of national team players, Audrey Mazvishaya, Josephine Nkomo, Modester Mupachikwa, Anesu Mushangwe and Nomatter Mutasa.
Women’s cricket co-ordinator, Caroline Nyamande, said the tournament will help the players gain international exposure.
“We are excited to take part in this competition as we are giving exposure to our feeder team to prepare them for the national squad,” said Nyamande.
The Under-19 women’s squad held a week-long training camp over the past two weeks together with the senior national women’s squad.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket yesterday said it had noted with concern an article in circulation concerning its commercial arrangements.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has a broadcasting arrangement with Taj Television that holds the television rights for Asia and the Middle East,” ZC said in a statement.
“ZC has also signed a deal with Total Sports Marketing (TSM) for commercial, ground and syndication rights.
“The contracts that ZC has with Taj TV and TSM are two separate deals which in no way infringe on each other’s rights.
“We wish to advise that ZC continues to honour all commercial arrangements it enters into, including the one with Taj TV.
“The deal with TSM allows ZC to enter into more bilateral arrangements with other countries for more home games.”
