The tremendous rise of dancehall music in the country over the past few years has seen the genre competing for listeners with popular genres like sungura because of its strong appeal among the youth.

As a result of this developing trend, Owen Goho decided to produce a documentary that shows the roots of Zim dancehall music in the country including live interviews with some of the best Zim dancehall artistes comprising of Freeman, Shinsoman, Lady Squanda and Lazzie T amongst others.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Goho said the documentary is titled “Pon di Riddim, Dancehall Magazine TV Show” and features Jamaican artiste Lady UK ,who is also a music promoter.

“The Zim dancehall documentary features quite a number of artistes with HKD boss Freeman and Nhubu Wemanuff showcasing pre-release music and doing freestyles as well.

‘’As for Lady Squanda, she talks about her video track ‘Ndinovhaira’ where she talks about who she really is and how her mom gave her everything in life,” he said.

“Shinsoman is screened while talking about his sudden rise to become one Zim dancehall’s most recognised artistes before making a couple of freestyles with Lazzie T on the keyboard.”

Goho, who is also an artiste, said the documentary seeks to promote artistes while giving them a platform to feature one on one with the presenter so that their legion of fans get to know their other side of life besides music.

‘’The documentary has some international dancehall artistes latest music, profiles and lifestyles so as to show the relevance of dancehall’s roots and understanding its true culture as well as reggae music

“I as Scatter Dem DJ features with Jamaican dancehall artiste Peppa Hot boss, Lady UK, working on a collaboration on our track ‘Victory is Mine’ which we are set to release soon,” he said.

He said the DVD was shot by Justin Kupamupindu and produced by Fred Moyo, who was also the director of the shoot.

Goho added that the “Dancehall Magazine TV Show DVD” special edition is set to be released by end of next week while shooting of the second episode is already on the cards.
