WHOEVER said Zim-Dancehall music was for the young and tender should reconsider and welcome a 47-year-old artiste who has just unleashed a sizzling 10-track dancehall project, Addicted. While it is widely believed that 14 is a magic age for the development of musical tastes, Richard Masawi, at his age, loves dancehall to the bone and has embarked on a new musical journey just when most people of his age would be winding up their careers.
“Unlike other upcoming dancehall musicians, I have vast experience of life and my lyrics are inspired by where I am coming from. My future in music is very bright. I am willing to work with any dancehall artiste for the betterment of providing quality to music lovers,” said Masawi.
The Mutasa-born artiste who is currently based in Harare sampled his new tracks at popular entertainment centre, Club Mandisa last Saturday and his verve and confidence shocked all those in attendance.
Addicted carries tracks such as Wakaromba, Random, Unochemei, In the house of God, Makorokoto, Musikana wandinoda, Mwanasikana and Handigare navo.
He tackles on social issues such as betrayal and love.
“My age does not affect my ambition. Opportunity knows no age. My lyrics carry inspiring messages to youths.
“My passion for music is so strong that nothing will deter me from releasing everytime I feel like and reaching out to my fans out there. I am happy with the response that I am getting from listeners. I feel encouraged that some of my videos have been airing on ZTV,” he said.
Masawi started music in 2001, but struggled to venture into mainstream music because of lack of adequate funds.
