Dancehall musician Terminator, real name Alban Nyatsambo (pictured), believes that Zim dancehall has room to develop if the artistes involved take a professional approach towards the genre.
Nyatsambo, who is riding high with his current song “Tinofamba NaMwari”, said the genre has a potential to grow, like it has done in countries such as Jamaica and Nigeria.
“The issues of double bookings, violence and everything bad associated with the genre can only be stopped if us artistes involved learn to be professional,” he said.
Nyatsambo last year walked away with the Most Promising Artiste Award at the Zim Dancehall Awards 2014 while this year has been nominated on two categories, Most Improved Artiste and Best Dressed Artiste.
Speaking on his growing brand, Nyatsambo said he is ready for stardom.
“I always work to improve as an artiste, but I have made it a point to maintain professionalism as far as music is concerned,” he said. The musician attended Lord Malvern High School in Waterfalls where he started his career as a musician.
“I started writing songs at school which had an urban grooves feel because that is what was in vogue those days. I then later ventured into dancehall in 2010 that genre was trending,” he said.
Nyatsambo is one of the musicians who sent the crowd into a frenzy with his performance at the 21st February Movement Fundraising concert held at City Sports Centre on Friday.
The musician performed some of his songs including “Ndofamba naMwari”, “Take Over” and “Shot Mugedhi” leaving the crowd in awe.
On Friday the musician is set to exchange notes with Winky D, Jah Prayzah and Tarasina Chibaya when they perform at Midlands Hotel in Gweru. “It is always good for an artiste to share the stage with your seniors in the genre, like Winky D and Jah Prayzah, who sings a different genre.
“That gives me experience and exposure to a number of things,” he said.
He promised to give his best at the show saying people should come in numbers of witness the event.
“That will be a day I urge people not to miss because we are prepared to rock Gweru,” he said.
Organisers of the event said they have chosen the young musician to be part of the gig because he has been consistent.
