Zim designers impress, but . . .

support that we are seeing from the corporate world for the show.
“The turnout was great and it was evident that the sponsors were beginning to appreciate the industry. The designers now need to capitalise and focus on quality clothes.

“I commend young designers for being creative and trendy.

“It is not appealing to see threads hanging from the seams of the outfits,” he said

Miller added that the young designers needed to work hard to improve on colour co-ordination.
“Unlike renowned designers who had their colour themes all worked out, the young designers showed no colour inspiration. The colour of an outfit should complement the next but I was not seeing that,” he said.

Miller also said designers needed to get together and share notes with established designers.
Managing editor of Zim Fashionista reiterated that Zimbabweans should support local designers.
“With time we will eventually meet the international standards but supporting and buying locally made clothes and actually wearing them to special events is the way to go. The designers, however, need to improve on the quality of materials they use when making their clothes,” she said.

The fashion week saw new kids on the block like Terrence Chipembere and Faithwear’s Tafadzwa Moyo making their debut appearance at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week.

Their designs were eccentric and a number of trends popped up throughout the collections, showing that Zimbabwean fashion was up there with world trends.

Moyo’s collection, which ran under the theme “Beauty”, was a youthful collection, which he said was inspired by the Zimbabwean woman’s beauty hence the need to express it. On the collection were summer shorts and athletic shirts with a modest aesthetic and a youthful palette.

The Fashion Week, which ran under the theme “Breaking Barriers,” ended on a high note and already, there are prospects that the event will be bigger and better next year.
