EGYPTIAN Ambassador to Zimbabwe Ms Salwa Mowafi yesterday commended the two countries for translating their strong political ties into new frontiers of bilateral cooperation in the medicine, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, construction and tourism sectors.

In an interview, Ambassador Mowafi, who is concluding her ambassadorial tenure, said the opening up of novel areas of collaboration have been enabled by the willingness of the two Governments to share expertise in other sectors for the betterment of their citizens.

Zimbabwe and Egypt, she said, are both “winners” whose economic interactions have doubled lately, and their historical positions on addressing continental and international issues, will always resonate on the primacy of dialogue and diplomacy.

As of last year, a team of Zimbabwean and Egyptian cardiac specialists successfully conducted open-heart surgeries on 10 children below the age of 14 at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

Ambassador Mowafi said the high-level exchanges and interactions between experts and businesses in both countries are opening horizons that are key pedestals for economic and socio-cultural growth.

“The translation of political relations into economic activities is already being reflected in the interactions between our two countries in the medicine, pharmaceutical and construction sectors. As a result, the trade exchange volume between our allied countries has doubled lately.”
