THE United Arab Emirates has urged Zimbabwe to tap into its innovation and new technology systems to achieve the Vision 2030 goal of a digital economy.
The UAE ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr Jassim Alqasimi recently said his country believed the future will be for scientific progress, especially in the field of innovation.
The UAE has supported global and regional initiatives in innovation in various fields of science and technology.
Ambassador Alqasimi has also encouraged the empowering of scientists and innovators giving them opportunities to achieve their scientific innovations.
“The UAE world has a world-leading experience in creating ideal conditions to enable innovation through the investment sector in line with leadership’s vision of the need to ensure sustainable economic development and limit the repercussions of climate change,” he said.
“The UAE seeks to achieve partnerships with the international community to achieve common interests, especially in advanced industries, and renewable energy technology and invites international partners to view the large investment opportunities available in the UAE.”
Working to ensure sustainable sources of energy was one of the most prominent commitments within their regional and international efforts and joint initiatives to advance technology solutions in vital sectors.
Zimbabweans in technological sectors have welcomed the new UAE technology and said it will help in attaining a digital economy in line with Vision 2030.
Mr Ignatius Nyongo president of the Zimbabwe Association of Inventors said they appreciated the role UAE was playing in encouraging innovation in students.
“This is something we have been waiting for in a very long time, especially hoping that it would come from embassies and diplomatic missions. UAE has made the first steps forward and I think, from the people who are innovative, this is a great opportunity.
“UAE is the greatest partner that we need at the moment to move forward in terms of technological innovation because they have made the first step. This is going to bring up innovation from the grassroots and it is going to us towards attaining a digital economy,” he said.
Robotics mentor for Zimbabwe Robotics Team Mr Charles Matanga said they have learned a lot from the UAE innovations and new technology.
“We have noticed that they actually have a Minister for Artificial Intelligence who concentrates on how people can use the incoming technology in all facets of the economy. It is an area that needs a lot of investments so that we have it being taught in schools.”
