ZIMBABWEANS in Teheran, Iran, have been evacuated following a review of the security situation in the Middle East, amid escalating tensions after the United States and Israel launched an unprovoked war.

Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), Mr George Charamba, confirmed the evacuation on X yesterday.

“Following a review of the security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has been jointly aggressed by the US and Israel, Zimbabwe Embassy staff in Teheran has been evacuated to neighbouring State of Armenia for safety,” he wrote.

“Non-essential members of staffers are being flown home.

“Similarly, Zimbabwe is in touch with all its missions in the Middle East to assess their security requirements and those of Zimbabweans in the region.”

The situation in the Middle East has intensified as the United States and Israel conducted multiple strikes across Iran, including in the capital, Teheran. These attacks were described by US President Donald Trump as “major combat operations.”

Iran responded by launching strikes on Israel and US bases in the region, further escalating the conflict.

Reports indicate that a series of explosions occurred in Tehran, with missile strikes hitting significant locations, including areas near Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps headquarters.

The Associated Press noted that strikes targeted sites close to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s offices, who has since been killed.

President Trump claimed that the goals of the campaign are to “destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground,” while warning Iranian military personnel of the consequences of continued resistance.

As tensions rise, Iran has continued to retaliate, bravely launching missiles at various US military locations throughout the region, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, signalling the potential for further escalation in this ongoing conflict.
