FILMMAKER and director, Daniel Lasker, and his team are on cloud nine after their movie, The Signal, was selected for the FilmQuest Festival in Utah in the United States.

Lasker posted on social media celebrating their selection for the festival, out of 1 567 submissions, from around the world.

Below is Lasker’s post:

“The Signal has just been selected for the prestigious FilmQuest Festival in Utah.

“Chosen out of 1 567 global submissions.

“This is a major achievement for the Zimbabwean film industry.”

Lasker is also an actor, who featured in South African movies, and other international projects.

The Signal lead actor, Tawanda Denga, said it was a great milestone for the film to be selected for the FilmQuest Festival, especially from more than 1 000 submissions, globally.

“It feels surreal being the first Zimbabwean production to be selected.

“It means a lot, not just to us, but to the Zimbabwean community.

“We were selected from over 1 500 entries, so that’s huge,” he said.

Denga said Zimbabwe was ready to compete, on a global level, in terms of film production.

“This selection means we have what it takes to create content that can compete on the global stage.

“For a long time, Zimbabwean films have been focusing on edutainment, but this proves that there is a gap for other types of genres to be explored,” he told H-Metro.

“And after this, it’s up all the way.”

When The Signal was released, it made waves on social media as one of the first Zim Sci-Fi movies to come out of Bulawayo.

The Signal has also been making headlines, on South African social media, as their bloggers write about the film.
