Zimbabwe was invited for the inaugural World Cup after Kutting Edge Sports Consultancy successfully hosted “Celebrate the Children Sports Festival” last year which caters for children from children’s homes.
The festival was attended by nine homes from across the country and is held over three days with children from different homes coming together to take part in sports, theatre and arts.
In an invitation letter from the organisers of the World Cup, The Hope for Euro Association said the invited team should feature eight football players up to the age of 17.
All the children should reside in orphanages on daily basis.
They have also invited four adults, including one official from the ministry, a coach and two Kutting Edge Sports Consultancy representatives who are the organisers of Sports Festival for Orphans in Zimbabwe to accompany the team.
The World Cup will be held at Pepsi Arena in Warsaw. Kutting Edge Sports Consultancy managing consultant, Masimba Mapuranga, said they have engaged the corporate world as they seek to raise US$35 000 for the trip.
“We are supposed to raise airfares for the delegation. Currently, we are engaging our corporate friends.
“When we hosted the festival in Harare last year we wanted to give these children a chance like what happens at the Cottco Festival. This festival gave them an opportunity to show that they can play sport like any other child. — The Herald.
