Zim forges tripartite alliance on UNWTO assembly

Tourism Council to ensure that the country successfully hosts the 2013 UNWTO General Assembly.
The agreement with the two renowned world tourism organisations was signed at a meeting held at the Chesterfield Hotel in London, between UNWTO secretary-general Dr Taleb Rifai, WTTC president Mr David Scowsill and Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi last week.
The three rearfimed their commitment to ensuring that the 2013 Victoria Falls General Assembly is a resounding success.
Minister Mzembi took the opportunity to reaffirm the Zimbabwean Government’s commitment to co-hosting the event with Zambia and that he had already briefed President Mugabe and tabled a report before Cabinet on the planned international conference and mega event.
Cabinet has already endorsed the report and its associated implementation plans, said Minister Mzembi.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Travel Market, the United Kingdom’s Tourism Fair, and the second largest in the world.
The three agreed on a consolidated approach to UNWTO 2013 General Assembly, with the WTTC making its first commitment to actively support the event, through a strong presence of the organisation at the assembly.
The UNWTO and the WTTC agreed to further consult on the programming of the event and the introduction of a WTTC thematic item on the General Assembly programme.
