THE Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has offered Zimbabwe the right to host the 2017 Zone VI Club Championships tournament in December.
The offer came at the end of the Club Championships in Swakopmund, Namibia, where Zimbabwe was represented by NABA, University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Wolves and Support Unit (men and women).
UZ Wolves and NABA scooped silver medals in the women’s and men’s categories.
Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) secretary-general Ringisai Mapondera said preparations will begin next month.
“We have been very honoured by CAVB to host the Club Championships and we hope the event will put us on the map following a great performance by our representatives in this year’s tournament. However, we are yet to start the process of applying to the Ministry of Sport and Recreation to give us the go ahead so that we can begin preparations,” said Mapondera.
“The good part is that the offer came early which will give us time to prepare so that we have a memorable event.”
The event will see Zimbabwe hosting clubs from Lesotho, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland and Angola, who make up Zone VI.
