Zim gets ready for Afro-Basket

THE Basketball Union of Zimbabwe will this week finalise the national team’s logistics for August’s Afro-Basket Championships in Tunisia.

Having submitted the final 20-men squad for the August 20-30 games, the association is mulling over offers from Germany and Algeria for a two-week camp, with a US$60 000 budget needed for the Europe trip.

BUZ president Addison Chiware said: “Although we did receive offers from both Algeria and Germany, we more or less cancelled out camping at the Algerian base as they are in our group.

“That said, we are looking at the Germany offer and should have a position sometime next week (this week).

“The organising committee is almost done with their work and I can assure you that everything will be in place.”

The team is in camp, training every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Fixtures for next month’s championships have been released and Zimbabwe begins its preliminary round of games with a date against Algeria at Salle Bir Challouf Stadium in Nabeul on August 20.

They play Cote d’Ivoire two days later at Paleus des Sports El Menzah, before rounding up the preliminary round with a date against Cape Verde, again at Salle Bir Challouf on August 24.
