Zim hip hop awards choose Byo as base

THE Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards will for the next three years be held in Bulawayo with organisers calling on the corporate world in the city to sponsor the awards.

For the first time in the seven years of their existence, the Zim Hip Hop Awards were held in the City of Kings last weekend, with the founder Beefy Harrison saying their decision to hold them again was to spread the culture.

“We want a change of environment for the awards hence our decision this year to bring them to Bulawayo. This has also spurred us on to hold the awards for the next three years in the city before they return to Harare. We want to push the culture to other parts of the country,” said Beefy.

He appealed to the Bulawayo business community to come on board with corporate sponsorship. Beefy said for them to hold a successful award ceremony, they need $12 000, something they did not have this year.

However the show was disorganised this year with a poor PA system contributing to the many technical glitches on the night. Some artistes could not be heard even using the microphones.

Beefy said they acknowledge that there were a lot of technical glitches and said he hopes with sponsorship, they could improve next year.

“We actually had a lot of technical problems this year and this was largely because of limited resources,” said Beefy.

This year gospel hip hop artiste Mudiwa was the biggest winner as he walked away with four gongs.
