FORMER Highlanders and Caps United players Vusa Nyoni and Nyasha Mushekwi’s Belgian Jupiler sides clashed over the weekend with Nyoni’s Mons continuing with their losing streak. KV Oostende, home to Mushekwi, emerged 2-0 victors and took their points tally to 12 while Mons remained winless with just three points. They are strong candidates for relegation unless there are drastic changes to their technical line-up.
In the Superliga in Denmark, former Motor Action forward Quincy Antipas’s Brondby crushed their opponents AGF 3-0 to climb to fourth on the log standings. Antipas though was an unused substitute.
In Romania, former Caps United player Mike Temwanjira was yellow carded in the 39th minute in their 1-1 draw with Petrolul Plosesti. They are now 10th on the log.
In the Czech Liga where former AmaZulu defender Costa Nhamoinesu plays, his side, Sparta Praha were held to a 1-1 draw by Sigma Olomonuc but they still maintained their pole position and remain well on course to lift the league title and win a ticket to the Uefa Champions League next season.
The Zimbabwean contingent in Europe is decreasing at an alarming rate with some players choosing to stay in Europe despite being offloaded by their clubs.
Players like former Highlanders star midfielder Honour Gombami, Eddie Mashinya, Musa Mguni and Ovidy Karuru are no longer attached or playing in their teams but are still rooted in Europe.
For Gombami his injury in 2009 while playing for Cercle Brugge triggered a decline in fortunes in his career with his club eventually loaning him to second tier side Antwerp.
At Antwerp, he had little game time before the club left him out of the 2013/14 season line-up.
