ZIMBABWE’S junior golfers will this evening leave the country for the All-Africa Junior Golf Championship which begins next week in Zambia. The 19th edition of the All-Africa Junior Championship tees off on Monday and runs until Thursday at Chainama Hills Golf Club in Lusaka.
Other countries expected to compete in the prestigious junior team championships include the host nation, Ghana, Kenya, Swaziland, Uganda, Namibia and Mauritius.
Regional powerhouses South Africa are the most successful nation in the history of the tournament after winning 15 titles is the competition’s 19-year history.
Junior sensation Stuart Krog, who is currently the top-ranked junior golfer on the Zimbabwe Golf Association’s junior rankings, will lead the team.
Bulawayo Golf Club junior Jack Allard, Justin Kersten and Kieran Vincent, the young brother of United States-based top amateur golfer Scott, are also part of the team.
Meanwhile, Scott Vincent, who was placed as the best amateur at the recently-held Zimbabwe Open, was scheduled to return to the field at his base in the United States late yesterday evening.
Vincent and his team, the Hokies, are competing in the 2014 ACC Men’s Golf Championship at the Old North State Club in Badin Lake, North Carolina.
The player is expected to carry on with his impressive form in the event.
Soon after posting a second-place finish and helping the Hokies to an impressive third-place finish at the 3M Augusta Invitational on April 6, Vincent returned home to take part in the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open where he had a good outing.
The golf sensation has since taken over the top spot of the career scoring list, with a 71.99 stroke average with another junior Trevor Cone in second place at 72.55.
