Zim legends take on SA in friendly

THE Zimbabwe soccer legends will clash against their South African counterparts at Rufaro Stadium in a friendly match on Saturday. The match is set to cement relations among the yesteryear stars. Zimbabwe coach, himself a living soccer legend, Gibson Homela, has announced an 18-member squad that will meet in Harare tomorrow.“The Bulawayo-based guys should be in Harare on Friday, the arrival date for our visitors,” said Homela.

Set to compete for the goalkeeping position will be former Highlanders goalie Peter “Captain Oxo” Nkomo and his former Caps United counterpart Brenna Msiska.

Also in the squad is Hwange coach Nation Dube, former Warriors coach Norman Mapeza, Ronald Gidiza Sibanda, the legendary Douglas Mloyi and Agent Sawu.

“We hope to reciprocate the trip in the near future,” said Homela.

South Africa are likely to bring on board the class of 1996 that won the Africa Cup of Nations under Clive Barker. It had the likes of Doctor Khumalo, Phil Masinga, John Shoes Mosheou, Neil Tovey and Andre Arendse.

Peter Nkomo, Brenna Msiska, Nkosana Gumbo, John Phiri, Norman Mapeza, Ronald Sibanda, Lloyd Chitembwe, Agent Sawu, Stanford M’tizwa, Tonderai Ndiraya, Simon Sibanda, Gift Lunga Jnr, Nation Dube, Obrey Sauramba, Douglas Mloyi, Paul Gundani, Wonder Chaka and Desmond Maringwa.
