THE Zimbabwe National Moot Court Team has conquered Europe.
This comes after the team was crowned world champions in May this year.
To earn their latest badge, the team of 11 high school boys and girls beat the Netherlands in the European Moot Court Championship in Romania yesterday.
Zimbabwe is the first African country to compete and win the Euro Championships.
In the preliminary rounds they faced Scotland, The Netherlands, Romania, Switzerland and Bulgaria.
Ahead of the Euro Champs they received US$30 000 from President Mnangagwa.
Speaking from the Netherlands, the team’s coach, Nqobile Dube, attributed the win to hard work.
“I am pleased to announce that the Zimbabwe National Moot Court team has won the European competition.
“It was a gruelling competition, after going through five intensive preliminary rounds, which culminated in a place in the final against the Netherlands.
“The hosts were tough and competitive but we managed to beat them with our arguments.
“I cannot emphasise how the team worked hard to earn the crown to become champions of Europe.”
The team was commended for its clarity in arguments, presentation and style which won them the crown.
Zimbabwe is the first African country to win both titles.
The 11-member group, who made history, includes students from the Dominican Convent, Midlands Christian College, Arundale School and Peterhouse.
They are Ruvimbo Simbi, Palesa Sigauke, Hazel Chiige, Karl Makahamadze, Kudzaishe Makoni, Rosa Gwisai, Chiyevo Mukonoweshure, Tadiwanashe Choto, Kuziva Khuleya, Sharon Maranganwa and Angelinah Thulo.
The competition was handled by judges and a famous lawyer of the International Criminal Court.
