One of Zimbabwe’s rising music producers and wheel spinner Steven Sanders aka DJ Stavo, has made a breakthrough in the region after several of his videos were accepted on Channel O for screening.
He joins a list of Zimbabwean musicians, among them Buffalo Souljah, whose music has made it in the region and beyond.
DJ Stavo’s track Ingoma, that features South African artiste Shota, also known as Ben 10, has been on Channel O rotation since January 17 and is now getting a fair share of airplay alongside some of Africa’s prominent musicians like D Banj and P Square in the Dance Express segment.
The single Ingoma, that was released two months ago, has become a hit in homes, pubs and at parties, affirming DJ Stavo’s creative edge.
In an interview, an elated DJ Stavo said it had always been his dream to push his music on both the local and the international market.
“I am happy that Ingoma is being played on Channel O and feel very blessed that it has been on high rotation. I have been pushing from day one for Zimbabwean music to get regional recognition. Once we get there I am sure we can go international,” he said.
DJ Stavo has worked with a number of local musicians that include Ex-Q, MacDee, Cindy, Roki and Trevor Dongo in his various songs that have endeared him to music fans not only in Zimbabwe, but across the region.
However, it was the video of one of his songs “Mnandi” featuring multi-award winning South African kwaito star Mandoza that raised DJ Stavo’s profile higher.
