BRITISH House of Commons Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, has committed to use his authority and influence to ensure that Zimbabwe gets readmitted to the Commonwealth, National Assembly Speaker Advocate Jacob Mudenda has revealed.

Adv Mudenda, who is in Britain leading a delegation comprising members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, made the revelations while addressing officials, ZANU PF members and the Diaspora at the Zimbabwe House in London after his meeting with Sir Hoyle.

“What came out of our discussion was that the Speaker (Sir Hoyle) has committed himself to use his authority and influence to speak to the power of that being, that Zimbabwe must be re-accepted in the Commonwealth,” Adv Mudenda said.

Adv Mudenda said the other exchanges with Sir Hoyle focused on exchanging best parliamentary practices by the two countries’ institutions.

He said despite the colonial history that exists between Zimbabwe and Britain, the two parties are engaging as equal sovereign states as espoused in the provisions of the United Nations Charter.
