Zimbabwe, under the guidance of Philemon Mangwiro, started the first quarter strongly with Goal Attacker Jessy Muti taking control and scoring for fun.
The convincing victory over Namibia was made possible by the brilliance of Muti, Rejoice Bushu, Goal Defender Erina Litemwe, Centre Aqueline Mufudze and Felistas Arufayi.
Mangwiro, who instructed his players to keep possession, make accurate passes and be tight in marking, saw them win the first quarter 14-4.
Zimbabwe could have bagged more goals in the first and second quarters but were let down by Goal Shooter Arufayi.
The score line at the end of the second quarter ended 22-8 in favour of Zimbabwe and coach Mangwiro told his payers to maintain the grip on the match and score more goals.
Zimbabwe powered their way to another convincing win at the end of the third quarter, as they won 34-11.
In the last quarter, Zimbabwe increased their pace that made life difficult for Namibia as they failed to match them.
Goalkeeper Stella Dzikiti remained resolute in defence, thwarting Namibia’s raids.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe women’s volleyball team lost to hosts DRC 3-1 in their second match at the Joseph Kabila Kabange Stadium yesterday.
The Zimbabwe chess team also got their campaign to a good start when they beat rivals South Africa by three and half points.
Rugare Muchena, Shepherd Chinhungwe, Adionis Bradley and Trymore Nyevhu represented Zimbabwe.
Nyevhu could only manage a draw with Muchena, Chinhungwe and Bradley winning their matches.
Zimbabwe now faces Angola in tomorrow’s decisive tie and need to collect at least three points to win the match.
