Ms Shoumilina said the country was on track in reducing STIs evidenced by the continuous decrease of the cases throughout the country.
On eliminating new HIV infections in children, Ms Shoumilina said the coverage of prevention of mother-to-child transmission had gone up from 86 to 93 percent in 2012. “PMTCT is the simplest way of preventing new HIV transmissions in children,” she said.
She said evidence also showed that cases of HIV transmission in children had gone down from 30 percent in 2009 to single digits.
Ms Shoumilina said in relation to availability of treatment to those in need, about 578 550 people were now on treatment.
She, however, bemoaned the limited number of children on treatment urging Government to scale up existing interventions to ensure all children in need of ARVs are on treatment.people in stable unions,
