WARRIORS defender Milton Ncube is shocked by the sudden death of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain. He died on Sunday night at his girlfriend’s house in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni. The acrobatic goalkeeper died while trying to save his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo from the robbers. The neighbours who heard gun sound said they initially thought it was a casual chat before the sound of a gun was heard.
It was when they heard gun shots that they realised something was wrong.
They found the national team captain helpless and powerless before taking him to hospital where he died.
The police are in search of three suspects who are believed to be behind the shooting of the Pirates goalkeeper.
Millions of people here are in great shock and disbelief.
Police have offered a R250,000 reward for anyone who will provide information leading to the arrest of the robbers.
Ncube who turned out for Highlanders until June this year and is now at Ajax Cape Town said: “Meyiwa wasn’t just a player, he was a role model to many.
Losing such a player at this time when he’s performed well and led his country with distinction, is painful. He was one man who was committed to his country’s success in football.”
The Ajax player said: “We were together with Meyiwa on Saturday night when his team beat us 4-1 in the Telkom Knockout Cup quarter-final. He displayed one of his greatest performances even though it was raining. I was shocked when I heard on Monday morning about his death and everyone at Urban Warriors never believed the news.”
Partson Jaure and Denver Mukamba were devastated by the untimely death of Meyiwa and they passed their condolences to the Meyiwa family and Pirates.
Ncube was on the bench last week when his team beat Patrick Kaunda’s Platinum Stars 2-1 in Cape Town Stadium.
The South African Premier Soccer League has postponed the Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates this Saturday to an unknown date following the death of Meyiwa.
