MAKOMO FC won the ticket to ply their trade in the Zifa Southern Region Division One League in 2015 in an emphatic fashion after they hammered hapless Fire FC 5-1 in a match played at Old Ground last Saturday. Prolific goal scorer Lawrence Khumbula was on fire with four goals and Kainos Masocha’s goal completed the demolition. There were wild celebrations as the miners and their drum beating fans broke into song and dance after the final whistle.
Thokozani Chitumbu’s face saver could not dampen Makomo’s celebrations.
Makomo took their tally to an unassailable 78 points with two games left, leaving Amagagasi in the cold at 69 points and needing at least a win from the last two matches to neutralise third placed ZRP Hwange’s threat.
Makomo FC chairman Mernard Maera was on cloud nine as he saluted his boys for a flawless season.
“Mission accomplished! We now prepare to celebrate what I should term a flawless season in which we witnessed some extra-ordinary performance by the boys. We’re now in Division One for another mission which is to ensure this Hwange town has two Premier League teams in 2016,” said a beaming Maera after the match.
The Zifa Matabeleland North chairman Dennis Tshuma has congratulated Makomo for clinching the title.
