Zim products in demand in Japan

ZIMBABWEAN farmers and companies have an opportunity to supply a ready market in Japan as the Asian country is in dire need of local products, an official has said.

Japan External Trade Organisation Researcher (JETRO) Trust Mvutungayi said the local farmers have an opportunity to take their produce to Japan where they are in demand.

“Zimbabwe offers interesting products in all sectors. There are so many products produced locally that the people in Japan would want,” said Mvutungayi in a recent interview.

“The Japanese are health conscious people who would want those products and as JETRO we’re working on picking people or companies that we can work with.”

He said some of the products that were in demand include groundnuts, dried fruits, tea, herbs, honey, dried bananas, coffee and seeds.

“Last year, we recruited more than 40 companies but only five Zimbabwean companies exhibited at the FOODEX Japan and we’re looking forward to having more companies from different sectors as our main thrust is to promote investment in different sectors,” said Mvutungayi.

He said JETRO works with all companies that produce goods that are in demand on the Japanese market.

JETRO is a government-related organisation that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world.
