BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province Darts League table-toppers Archers recorded an impressive 23-16 win over defending champions Railstars.
Archers, who last won the league in 2014, ran riot over the title holders, to hand Railstars their first defeat of the season and send a clear message about their title intentions.
The victory saw Archers stretching their unbeaten run in the league to seven and second placed Zimbabwe School of Mines are the only other unbeaten side in the league. The two teams are tied on seven points.
Archers’ captain Ernest Sibanda said they had set their sights on winning the title without dropping a point.
“We won the 2013 title without losing points and in 2014 managed to defend it with only one defeat. My aim is to have my players push harder and make sure that we win the title in style with a 100 percent record,” said Sibanda.
“It’s possible for us to do that and giving ourselves targets that appear almost impossible is what drives us to victory. The teams that will face us in the coming weeks must be terrified because we want to trample over them and show that we’re championship material. We mean business.”
Archers’ title hopes will be pinned on the quartet of Bornface Maningi, Tawanda Albert, Wilfred Chitakatira and Brian Ndlovu.
