Zim ready for Griquas challenge

School where they had a rest day after having the last Captain’s run on Saturday.

The tournament is the flagship tourney of South African schoolboys’ rugby and features 20 Under-18 teams, 18 South African provincial teams, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Scotland-based Denford Mtamangira, Scot Gray and Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira all played used this tournament as a springboard for their moves abroad to play professional rugby.

Captain and flanker, Daniel Moolman, knows the huge task at hand.
“I do not think that the result is the biggest thing that we are here for. We know we have a big job at stake and we will give it our all and play for the (Zimbabwe) bird and play for each other,” said Moolman,

“Our side has a lot of speed in the backs and I think our forwards are bigger than the ones from last year. We also have a lot of experience from last year’s tournament with eight players from last year.

“There is a good team spirit which is what I think the team needs from day one.”

Griquas are a huge squad but improvements in Zimbabwe’s preparations have made for a difference of 15 kgs between their starting scrum packs.

Zimbabwe weighs in at 744kg while the Griquas weigh in at 729 kg.
