ZIMBABWE is ready to host the 22nd International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) aimed at strengthening national responses to HIV and Aids.
The National Aids Council chief executive, Dr Bernard Madzima, noted that the country is well prepared to ensure a successful conference.
This includes setting up local and international secretariats, finalising themes and speakers, and agreeing on an agenda.
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also Health and Child Care Minister, will head the local secretariat.
“We have had our two-day international steering committee meeting for ICASA 2023 and have managed to go through the programme and achieved our objectives,” said Madzima.
“The main objective was to finalise on the thematic areas of the scientific committee, the leadership committee and the community programme.
“So, we managed to set up these committees and agreed on the agenda, topics which will be discussed, and finalised the pre-conference meetings.
“One of the agenda items was to set-up the local secretariat for ICASA and to also set-up the international secretariat.” Madzima said the country’s budget for the event is now in place.
