IN another big boost for the development of local junior motocross riders, the German Youth Motocross Association have invited six young Zimbabwean bikers to attend their annual Summer Training Camp that will be held from August 3-6 in Reisersberg, Germany.
Kuda Mhene (Jnr), Tanya Muzinda, Emmanuel Bako, Daiyaan Manuel, Ryan Masimo and Davin Cocker have been invited to attend the four-day Summer Training Camp where they will join about 60 other top junior motocrossers, who will be coming from all over Germany and other European countries.
Regina Schaffer of the German Youth Motocross Association (DJMV), said they would like to help the six young Zimbabwean riders in their preparations for next month’s FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championship by inviting them to attend this year’s Summer Training Camp at Reisersberg.
This came after a German non-profit making organisation, the GeBe Education and Sports Foundation, made a request to have the six young Zimbabwean riders to be included in this year’s DJMV Summer Training Camp.
“We recently received a request from the GeBe Education and Sports Foundation to invite young riders from Zimbabwe to take part in this year’s Summer Training Camp and we agreed to include them in our programme which will run from August 3-6 in Reisersberg.
“In fact, the Summer Training Camp’s participation is open to all riders and drivers of the young motocross class from 50cc to MX2 Junior (125 /250cc to 18 years) and the women’s class.
“And depending on the number of participants and in consultation with the DJMV, even older drivers and riders can participate in the four-day camp. With participation of at least eight women we can, if desired, give a separate ladies group. Furthermore, participants and accompanying persons below 18 years may participate only if accompanied by a parent or guardian at the summer camp,” Schaffer said from her base in Germany.
One of Germany’s top motocross trainers Andreas Mayer will run this year’s DJMV Summer Training Camp and he will be assisted by a number of that country’s top coaches such as Kevin Mikus, Tim Winkler, Maik Schaller, Benedikt Hauck, Kevin Winkle, Tim Ebinger, Karl Wiedmann, Christian Blessing, Alexander Hay, Fabian Strobel and Christian Baptist.
Schaffer said the Zimbabwean riders are expected to be in Germany on August 2, a day ahead of the start of the Summer Training Camp that will this year be hosted by one of that country’s top motocross clubs, MCC Reisersberg in Reisersberg.
Bernd Wulffen, the director and founder of the GeBe Education and Sports Foundation, said apart from attending this year’s DJMV Summer Training Camp, Muzinda, Bako, Mhene (Jnr), Manuel, Masimo and Cocker have also been invited to spend one more week training with another top German motocross club, RMC Reutlingen, as part of their preparations for the African Championships.
“Remember, two top German motocross clubs — Teutschenthal and RMC Reutlingen — had indicated that they would like to invite a number of young Zimbabwean riders for a two to three weeks training camp in Germany in August ahead of the African Championships and we decided to take the offer from the latter club who said they would give them some good training facilities and bikes at their club after the DJMV Summer Training Camp in Reisersburg.
“So, after attending the DJMV Summer Training Camp, where they will be training and racing every day, they will then move to RMC Reutlingen, where they will spend one more week working under some of Germany’s top motocross trainers.
“We (the GeBe Education and Sports Foundation) are facilitating all this as we would also like to help these talented young Zimbabwean riders in their preparations for next month’s African Championships that will be held there in Harare,” Wulffen said.
