Young people are being exposed to sexual activities at an early age, hence the need for life skills education in schools. Life education encompasses what can be termed as sex education. It is important that students are educated about these issues as they have become the order of the day. This week students tell us what they think about having sex education in the curriculum.
Sex education should be taught in schools because it helps young people make right choices about their behaviour and feel confident and competent about acting on these choices.

Sex education in schools is good because it creates awareness in young people. However, introduction of contraceptives in the form of condoms in schools would be a bad idea because students will see this as an opportunity to have casual sex.
Bradley Sibiya, 17yrs, Prince Edward

It is wrong for young students to be taught about sex , in fact sex education must be removed because they are putting young people in danger exposing them to sexual activities. Sex education and the introduction of condoms in toilets should be abolished because young children have better things to learn about in terms of academics.
Munyaradzi Bobo, 15yrs, Lord Marlevn

In today’s age and time, sex seems to be the in thing, therefore sex education is important in schools because it reduces sexual activity in students.

As young as we are to be learning about sex is too early because we still have other important issues to learn, putting condoms in school toilets is a no because it encourages mischief. Remember after learning it what comes next is practice. I say no to sex education.

In today’s age we are being exposed to sexually transmitted diseases, therefore sex education is important because it makes us aware of the consequences of being sexually active, therefore the condoms are highly appreciated because one is guaranteed to be safe whenever abstinence is impossible.
Ellison Chiumburu, 15yrs, Oriel Boys High.

Sex education is good because it helps us to learn the disadvantages and advantage of indulging in sexual activities as young students, but introduction of contraceptives is not okay because people of our age are still young to be indulging in sexual activities whereas contraceptives would encourage young be to be sexually active.
Thabani Kutywayo, 18yrs, Allan Wilson

Sex education must be removed because it is putting young people in danger, exposing them to sexual activities. Why do we need to know about sex while we are at school? I disagree that we should be taught sex education.
Takudzwa D Kambani, 14yrs, Dzivarasekwa 2 High.

When we go to school we expect to be taught academic things, sex education is not necessary because it disturbs our education and contraceptives are not for school going children but for adults, therefore they should be kept where adults can access them not in the school yard.
Tatenda Munodawafa, 15yrs, Marlbereign Girls High

Awareness is the most important aspect for today’s youth. Sex education teaches students to be aware of the dangers in indulging in sexual activities, but distributing contraceptives in schools is not ideal because students will see it as an excuse to indulge in sex.
Grace Manyuchi, 13yrs, Vainona High School

It is hard to talk to our parents on issues concerning sex, however at school we feel free talking about such issues as colleagues and we feel free to ask questions concerning sex therefore sex education in schools is very important.
