EXCITEMENT is sweeping across Zimbabwe following confirmation that Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi will headline this year’s Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2026 grand finale in Harare.
From fashion circles and modelling agencies to social media platforms and entertainment spaces, Zimbabweans can barely wait for the arrival of one of Africa’s most celebrated beauty queens.
Many are describing her visit as an historic milestone for the country’s glamour industry.
The glamorous event is set for June 6 at Harare’s Hippodrome.
Zozi will officially host the pageant in what has already become one of the most anticipated lifestyle events on Zimbabwe’s entertainment calendar.
The announcement triggered instant excitement across Zimbabwe after Zozi shared the news through social media.
“Hello Zimbabwe! I’m so excited to share that I will be hosting Miss Universe Zimbabwe Grand Finale on the 6th of June.
“It’s my first time visiting the country and I couldn’t be more happier to do it on stage with impeccable young women. See you there!”
Within hours, her message had flooded timelines with thousands of comments from Zimbabwean fans welcoming her warmly and praising organisers for bringing one of Africa’s biggest beauty icons to the country.
For many Zimbabweans, Zozi’s arrival represents far more than celebrity glamour.
It represents recognition.
It represents growth.
And it represents Zimbabwe’s determination to position itself among Africa’s leading pageantry destinations.
Across modelling circles, excitement has been impossible to ignore.
Pageant followers, fashion lovers and aspiring models have openly celebrated the move, saying Zozi’s presence instantly elevates Zimbabwe’s international profile.
Harare-based modelling enthusiast, Ashley Moyo, said Zimbabwe’s glamour industry deserves this level of continental attention.
“Having Zozi here is huge for Zimbabwe. She is not just a beauty queen, she is an African inspiration.
“Young girls here have looked up to her for years. This shows that Zimbabwean pageantry is growing and being recognised internationally,” she said.
Nigel Dube described the development as a major confidence boost for local creatives.
“This gives Zimbabwe visibility. People around the world will now pay attention to our pageant industry, our designers, photographers and models.
“Zozi coming here is a win for the whole country,” he said.
Across social media, many Zimbabweans are praising organisers for embracing international standards often associated with major global pageantry productions.
In countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, Venezuela and South Africa, former international queens frequently host national competitions as part of efforts to strengthen brand visibility and attract global attention.
Industry insiders say Zimbabwe’s decision to bring Zozi reflects the country’s growing ambition to compete at that same international level.
When Zozi won the Miss Universe crown in 2019, she became a powerful global symbol of African pride after challenging traditional beauty stereotypes with her natural hair, dark skin and unapologetic authenticity.
Her victory resonated deeply across Africa because it redefined what global beauty could look like.
Millions of young African girls suddenly saw themselves represented on one of the world’s biggest stages.
Today, Zozi remains one of Africa’s most influential female media personalities, balancing acting, television hosting, philanthropy and women empowerment initiatives while continuing to inspire young women globally.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe board chairperson, Danya Kabwebwe, said Zimbabwe is honoured to welcome somebody of Zozi’s stature.
“Zozibini Tunzi represents purpose, authenticity and African excellence. Her journey changed beauty conversations globally and inspired millions of young girls across the continent,” said Danya.“Her presence at Miss Universe Zimbabwe is a proud moment not only for pageantry, but for Zimbabwe’s entire creative industry.
“Pageants today are more than beauty competitions. They are international platforms that create opportunities for creatives, models, designers and brands.
“Bringing Zozi here gives Zimbabwe greater continental exposure.”
Industry observers believe local fashion designers, makeup artists, photographers and stylists attached to the production stand to benefit enormously from the continental spotlight surrounding this year’s event.
And as the country prepares to welcome one of Africa’s most celebrated queens, one thing has become increasingly clear.Zimbabwe is not simply hosting a beauty pageant.
It is embracing a continental cultural moment.
A celebration of African excellence.
