ZIMBABWE will send a big team to the second edition of the All-Africa Amateur Championship golf event at Leopard Creek in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The team will see in-form Zimbabwean women amateur golfer Miriam Masiya’s progress being rewarded after she was invited to the All-Africa Women’s Invitational.
Masiya of Royal Harare will be joined by US duo Primrose Chikwaya and Danielle Bekker in a tournament that tees off tomorrow. In a statement, the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union said they are thrilled that three of their players were invited to the high-profile tournament, which will also see them attending a high-performance camp.
“Three of our high-performing players have been invited to participate in the Africa Amateur Women’s Invitational (AAWI) at Leopard Creek in Mpumalanga from January 31 to February 4.
“Two of the players, Bekker and Chikwaya, will travel from their universities in the United States, while our youngest elite player, Masiya, will travel from Harare to join the team.
“This is the second year the tournament is being held, and it is good to have some of our players getting recognised and taking part.
“The young players will be in a high-performance camp, followed by the AAWI, which begins February 5 to 7, and we wish the team all the best,” they stated. In the boys’ section, there is a strong field of nine players, which will be headlined by 19-year-old Tanaka Chatora, who recently won the Dugmore Trophy.

Boys: Elton Dancel Zulu, Michael Wallace, Keegan Shutt, Kelvin Isaac Muchenje, Shepard Chiwaya, Darling-ton Chikanyambidze, Vincent Chidambazina, Tanaka Chatora.
Girls: Mirriam Masiya, Dannille Bekker, Primrose Chikwaya
