ZIMBABWEAN student, Mike Lungu, who gained fame for completing his A Levels in just nine months, is stuck in Zambia after overstaying his visa and detained by immigration officials.

Lungu had completed courses in Zambia which had earned him a route to the United States, where he had been offered a scholarship.

Lungu appealed for help from Good Samaritans who supported him during his studies, as he faces a US$500 fine and deportation following his arrest.

He was studying law at the University of Zimbabwe before leaving to continue his studies in Zambia on a scholarship at UNICAF.

Lungu was nabbed by Zambian Immigration officials two weeks ago for overstaying.

Speaking to H-Metro, a sobbing Lungu pleaded for help, saying he had been languishing in jail for two weeks now.

“I was taken from the Airport when I was about to return home to prepare to travel to the US.

“I overstayed by a month. I have been told that if I don’t pay the US$500 on Monday (today) I will be given a six-month sentence before being deported,” said Lungu.

He said his health had deteriorated since his detention.

“I am diabetic and have not been eating consistently since my arrest. We are only allowed phonecalls during weekends.

“I need help kuti ndikwanise kubhadhara fine ndidzoke kuZimbabwe ndigadzirire kuenda ku America on October 24.

“I can be reached on my aunt’s mobile number in Zambia +260760697289.”
