A delegation of 26 students and staff from Mother Touch Group of Schools (MTGS) is representing Zimbabwe in the United Kingdom, participating in a landmark two-week educational and cultural tour that has seen them raise the Zimbabwean flag high on the international stage.
The group left Zimbabwe on July 7 and is scheduled to return on July 20, 2025. Its itinerary is packed with visits to iconic British landmarks, participation in world-class sporting workshops, and performances at prestigious cultural festivals, all designed to broaden horizons and foster global citizenship among Zimbabwean youth.
The MTGS delegation’s journey began with a glittering black-tie send-off dinner at Salome Hall, Mother Touch Junior School in Harare, attended by parents, staff, and special guests including renowned entertainer Prudence Mbofana. The event celebrated the students’ achievements and raised funds for the tour, underscoring the strong community support behind the initiative.
In the UK, the students are visiting renowned sites such as the British Museum, Science Museum, Tower of London, and the University of Oxford. A major highlight is their participation in the Manchester United Skills Lab Workshop, where MTGS students are receiving elite football training and engaging with peers from around the world. The tour also includes sports fixtures in Manchester, with matches against local academies and school teams, as well as tours of legendary stadiums like Old Trafford and Etihad.
MTGS is also competing at the prestigious Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod in Wales, a globally renowned festival that brings together over 4,000 performers annually to promote international harmony through music and dance. The school’s participation not only showcases Zimbabwe’s artistic talent but also serves as a powerful act of cultural diplomacy, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to peace and understanding through the arts.
Founded in 1997 as a modest Early Childhood Development centre in New Marimba, Harare, MTGS has grown into one of Zimbabwe’s most respected educational institutions, with campuses in Harare, Victoria Falls, and Selous. The school is celebrated for its Christian ethos, holistic curriculum, and a track record of nurturing students who excel both locally and internationally. MTGS integrates the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) syllabus with international programs such as Cambridge and Microsoft, ensuring students are equipped for global success.
Speaking from the UK, MTGS CEO and founder Mrs Salome Mutsinze emphasized the importance of the tour:
“This tour is a testament to our commitment to holistic education. We believe in nurturing learners who are not only academically competent but also globally aware and culturally enriched. Our students will gain invaluable insights into new cultures and concepts, preparing them to excel on the world stage.”
She added:
“We are deeply grateful to our parents, staff, and the entire MTGS community for their unwavering support. It is through collective effort and God’s grace that we continue to provide these transformative opportunities for our learners.”
Reflecting on the school’s ethos, Mrs. Mutsinze said:
“At Mother Touch, we take our time to understand each child’s unique needs and capabilities. Our ceaseless effort is to bring out the best in every learner, equipping them to face life’s challenges and make a positive impact in the world.”
