Zim take second place in shooting champs

The three-day event saw South Africa amass 5 273 points, Zimbabwe 5 136 and Namibia 3 215.

Zimbabwe, however, did very well in the juniors and women’s categories with Bayley Maidwell clinching the Zimbabwe and Africa titles. He also won the President’s Medal. For his efforts he got a gold medal and silver in the shoot-offs.

Blaise Kay got silver in the Zimbabwe Open and the Africa Championship and topped that with gold in the shoot-offs.

Aidan Smith was third in the Zimbabwe Open and the Africa Championships.

In the women’s section Tara Maidwell walked away with gold in the Zimbabwe Open and Africa Championships. She was also the winner of the President’s Medal. Maidwell was also the shoot-offs gold medallist.

Chrissy Atkinson was the Zimbabwe Open and the Africa Championships silver medallist while Jo-Anne Schultz clinched bronze.

Caroline Atkinson claimed the silver medal in the shoot-offs to cap a good individual outing for the Zimbabwean women and juniors.

Maidwell said they were proud as a club and as a nation to host such a successful competition.

“The competition went on superbly and we are very proud of our club for hosting such an awesome event and more proud of our local shottists who did very well,” she said.
