Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira yesterday paid a courtesy call on Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo in Dar es Salaam.

The courtesy call was made on the sidelines of the 27th Meeting of the Ministerial Committees of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations.

“The discussions focused on strengthening the long-standing political and diplomatic ties between the two countries in areas of mutual interest, specifically economic integration and the preservation of peace and security in the SADC region,” reads the statement.

“Zimbabwe and Tanzania’s diplomatic ties reflect long-standing solidarity, historical friendship, and a shared commitment to regional peace, development and Pan-Africanism.

“Tanzania, under the leadership of the visionary President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s fight for independence, providing sanctuary and political support to liberation our movements.”

The ministry said the historical support laid the basis for the strong bilateral ties that have flourished over the decades.

As Zimbabwe continued its economic trajectory and re-engagement efforts, Tanzania remained a key strategic ally in promoting regional solidarity and mutual development for the country.
