The Zimbabwe team was in buoyant mood as they won all the categories in athletics.
Zimbabwean athletes were dominant in the 100m, 1 500m and the 4 x 100m relays. Zambia, represented by the Zambia National Union of Teachers, were second on the medal table in the track events.
Namibia were third and Swaziland fourth.
The round robin stages of football were held yesterday and Namibia got the better of Zambia 2-1 while Zimbabwe walloped Swaziland 8-1 in a one-sided affair.
Newly-elected president of SATO, Henry Kapenda, said the festival was going on well.
“This, as the first edition of the festival, should work as an eye-opener to all the nations who took part,” he said.
“The games were a success judging by attendance figures and the level of competition.
“I am very impressed with the Games and we are aiming at making this an annual event and it should grow with each passing year.
“The event will shift from country to country and we hope every nation will learn something when we finish.
“The main objective of the games is to create a platform for cultural exchange within the region.
“We are also aiming at promoting unity within the region as the plight of teachers is almost the same so they will have time to discuss some issues.”
