Zim team leads in bowling tourney

BOWLING green queen Kerry Craven and her counterparts were in top form on the opening day of the Zimbabwe October 5s bowling tournament which started at the City Bowling Club yesterday.
Craven and her team, which included Ally Dale, Julie Barnes and Heather Singleton, led by 18 points with an aggregate of 20.

Dereck Davies’ team were in second place with 14 points on an aggregate of nine while in the third position was the team which had Malcolm Evans on 13 points with an aggregate of 11.

Allan Dykes’ team were in fifth place with 12 points and an aggregate of -3.

Thai side Coco, led by Ian Mckissock, were not so successful in the Fours as they could only settle on 12th position after amassing eight points with an aggregate of -4.

In the Pairs, the Thai side, which also had Zimbabwean Manuel Silva, beat Malcolm Evans and his teammate by four shots and ended the score on 15-11 in a tightly-contested encounter.

But the Thai side were defeated again by Colin Robertson’s team by two shots and the match ended at 12-10.

Aaron Chilundo described his match against Austin Kupara from Alexandra Sports Club as a very tough game.

Chilundo peeled 17-17 in the second set of the match but was more successful in the last set when he won by one shot in the 18th end.

He won 18-17.

‘My match against Austin was very tough. I thought I was going to lose it but I did it, we peeled in the second set.

“So far I am enjoying the tournament. I still have more games to play today and tomorrow so I am happy to win but I still have a long way,” said Chilundo.
