Yesterday’s victory saw the Zimbabwe men’s Under-20 side hauling themselves back into contention for the gold medal as they now just pray that South Africa beat Lesotho in the last Group B match today in order for them to book a place in tomorrow’s semi-finals. In fact, Zimbabwe can only be denied a place in the semis if Lesotho produce a miracle in their match against South Africa today and beat the host nation by a 15-goal margin.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe women’s side fell to Malawi 21-25 in their last Group A match yesterday but they can still book a place in the semi-finals.
For Zimbabwe to qualify for the last four, they have to pray that Malawi beat the hosts South Africa in today’s last Group A match at Orlando Community Hall in Soweto or that South Africa beat the Malawians by a huge margin in this match. In yesterday’s match against Malawi, the Zimbabwe women’s Under-20 side failed to produce the same performance which saw them beating South Africa 20-17 in their first match on Sunday.
