Zimbabwe will host this year’s Africa Green Waste and Energy Expo 2023 as African countries and the global community continue strengthening their bilateral relations to proffer sustainable solutions to climate change.

Green Expo is done annually by key players in issues to do with the environment and is a platform to learn, share experience, and promote innovative approaches to climate change as well as attracting potential investors.

Government partnered with Zimbabwe Sunshine Group to host Green Expo and Summit which will run from 26 to 28 July in Harare.

Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry permanent secretary Ambassador Raphael Faranisi said the expo had a vast potential of remodelling existing measures put by the Government to ensure there is sustainable environment and to respond to climate change.

“The Green Expo and Summit is coming at an opportune time as the Government of Zimbabwe recently launched its long awaited Carbon Trading Framework which seeks to encourage Climate action and is expected to stimulate investments and meaningful action by sector players,” he said.

He said the expo will open new avenues to sustaining the environment

“The key driver of the desired sustainable economic model: the circular economy is the transition to low carbon forms of energy generation, storage, mobility and industrial production.  This is creating new demand for what are considered the minerals of the future platinum, lithium, copper and vanadium, amongst others of which Zimbabwe is endowed with them in abundance,” he said.

He said Zimbabwe was still making milestones in response to climate change and would attract investment.

“You will be aware that our country is a signatory of the Paris Agreement and several other conventions on environment, the NDCs are our commitments to contribute to global GHG emissions reduction.

“The Green Expo presents a unique opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase the progress made in meeting its aspirations enshrined in the Nationally Determined Contributions,”said Ambassador Faranisi.

Ambassador Faranisi said the expo will address topics such as The Future of Energy, Climate Smart Agriculture, The Future of Work, Climate Promise, Sustainable Cities, among others.

Zimbabwe Sunshine Group director Mr Ronny Mbaisa confirmed 20 countries were expected to come with over 100 people exhibiting during the expo.

“We are expecting 20 countries across the globe and they include Indonesia, Angola, South Africa, Sweden, Zambia, France. We are going to have key players to do with waste management and climate issues and some have started registering.

“This expo will show what has been achieved in the region,”said Mr Mbaisa

The expo will run under the theme: “Just Transition Remodelling Systems.”

Which resonates well with the Carbon Trading Framework the Government launched recently to create a guideline where investors operate in line with the Governments’ policy to sustainable environment.
