ZIMBABWE is set to host the ninth edition of the Africa Public Service Day (APSD) in June after getting the nod for the second time following the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions.
The event will be held from June 21 to 23 in Victoria Falls.
The commemorations recognise the role played by public servants and public sector organisations to benefit people.
The previous edition was held from June 21 to 23, 2021, at Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls.
The event was kept small in accordance with Covid-19 World Health Organisation protocols and guidelines at the time.
It was against this backdrop that Zimbabwe was given a second chance to host the continental commemorations.
APSD derives its theme from the African Union (AU) theme for the year.
The 2023 AU theme is ‘Acceleration of Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) Implementation’.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Paul Mavima, said the ninth 2023 Continental APSD will run under the main theme ‘The African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) will require a fit for purpose African public administration to succeed’.
“Preparations for the event have already started, to this effect, an Inter-Ministerial taskforce has been put in place.
“As we speak, the African Union Special Task Team on Africa Public Service Day is in the country to assist with the preparations.
“Celebrations will be in the form of exhibitions of the various services that are offered by the Public Service. Concurrently, plenary sessions where the various thematic areas will be discussed will be held at the venue.”
He said this would present a great opportunity for participants to enjoy the Victoria Falls and the country’s hospitality.
“Hosting the event is an opportunity to show the world the sterling contributions of the public service to the attainment of our national vision,” he said.
