Zim to host Cosafa

Sports Reporter
ZIMBABWE have been handed another chance to host the Cosafa Cup tournament next year. Last week Zifa received communication from the Cosafa leadership proposing that the country consider hosting the Cosafa Cup next year. This comes at a time when Caf have just approved three applications by Zifa to host some key tournaments.

Zimbabwe are now in the running to host the Women African Championships in 2016. Caf have also acknowledged the candidature of Zimbabwe in the running to host CHAN 2018.

Yesterday Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said they will approach the Government through the Sports Commission for the guarantee.

“We are optimistic we will get guarantee for these tournaments. It is good to be recognised by Caf. We think we have the adequate resources to host these tournaments and demonstrate our hospitality to the guests,” he said.

Gwesela was also confident that they will secure the authority to host the Cosafa Cup next year.
“Cosafa have invited us for a meeting in Johannesburg on September 25 to discuss issue of hosting the tournament.”

Last year Zimbabwe failed to host the African Women Championships after failing to secure the Government guarantee.
