Ten teams turned up for this year’s event and defending champions South Africa did not drop points after the first round.
Kenya, Namibia, and Tanzania were all on 4.5 points to settle for a fourth place as the hosts Malawi and Zambia started on a low note settling for joint seventh place with three points each.
Mozambique on two points are ninth while Mauritius with a measly 0.5 points anchor the standings.
Zimbabwe’s team left the country on Sunday, and are expected to do better than the party that came third last year. Last year Zimbabwe finished behind South Africa and Kenya who hosted the event.
In this year tournament Emanuel Hungwe is the captain and should be ably supported by the country’s top amateur Clive Nguru and Ben Follet-Smith.
