Zim Under-19s continue preps for Cricket World Cup

PREPERARIONS for next year’s International Cricket Council Under-19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies continue for the Zimbabwe Under-19s who take on a Select XI at Harare Sports Club today.

On Thursday, the Prosper Utseya coached Zimbabwe Under-19 defeated the Select XI by three wickets at Harare Sports Club. Former Zimbabwe Under-19 batsman, Tadiwanashe Marumani top scored for the Select XI with a 73-ball 100 as his team was all out for 174 runs in 33.3 overs. Alex Falao and Victor Chirwa had three wickets each while there were two apiece for vice captain Brian Bennett and Connor Mitchell.

Zimbabwe Under-19 lost seven wickets on their way to reaching their target in 30.5 overs.

Skipper Emmanuel Bawa top scored for the Zimbabwean juniors with 34 runs, Lawrence Zvaita contributed 28 while Tashinga Makoni had an unbeaten 27 down the order.

Plans are in place for the Zimbabwe Under-19 to play against the Select XI before the team leaves for the West Indies on Sunday, with dates for departure having been changed as the youngsters were meant to depart early next month.
Zimbabwe have been drawn to play against Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Pakistan.
