Zimbabwe and Venezuela have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on binational cooperation and guaranteeing quality university education.
The MoU was signed on July 21 in Venezuela in the Oval Office of the ministerial body.
Zimbabwe was represented by Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet responsible for Finance, Administration and Human Resources Ambassador Zvinechimwe Churu and Venezuela’s Higher Education Minister Ricardo Sanchez, with the country’s Deputy Minister for Africa, Yuri Pimentel also in attendance.
The MoU is seen as a major step towards strengthening scientific and cultural exchange. “This agreement fosters the spirit of binational cooperation and guarantees quality university education,” reads a statement from the Venezuelan Embassy that covers Namibia and Zimbabwe.
“This commitment opens the doors of Venezuela, and particularly its universities, to welcome our brothers and sisters from Zimbabwe. Through the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Foundation and its scholarship programme, Zimbabwean students will receive professional training at various universities across the country.”
The Embassy said the agreement underscores Venezuela’s vision of training highly qualified professionals who will drive the progress of both countries and contribute to building a multipolar and pluricentric world.
“This work session reaffirms the strong bonds of brotherhood between Venezuela and Zimbabwe, where the signing of this agreement is a clear manifestation of our President (Nicholas Maduro)’s unwavering commitment to establishing solid international alliances and promoting university education as a fundamental pillar for the development of the country and building a future of cooperation and mutual benefit for these sister countries,” reads the statement.
Zimbabwe and Venezuela enjoy cordial relations since time immemorial.
