AN array of artistes will be honoured at the much-anticipated Zimbabwe Visual Arts Awards to be held at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe tomorrow.
Artistes will be vying for prizes in various categories comprising mixed media, painting, print-making, sculpture, and sculptural installations.
The National Gallery of Zimbabwe is behind the awards.
“The Zimbabwe Visual Arts Awards will take place on Friday the 10th of February 2023, with a finissage and awards ceremony.
“The exhibition has been on show since October 2022, and has been graced by over 2 000 visitors, and now, the revelation of the winning artistes shall be unveiled.
“The ceremony shall feature the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s Board of Trustees chairman, Justice Maphios Cheda, as guest of honour in the evening,” reads part of the statement.
Below are the shortlisted artists:
Painting — Keith Zenda, Petros Mwenga and Daniel Chirumure.

Sculpture and Sculptural Installations — Rickson Zavare, Victor Nyakauru, Collen Nyanhongo and Ngonidzashe Tsiga.
* * *
Mixed Media — Damien Grant, Johnson Mugabe and Semina Mpofu.
* * *
Architecture — Stone Beattie Munodawafa Architects and Tinashe Muskwe.
* * *
Printmaking — Grace Nyahangare and Dumisani Ndlovhu.
Event organisers have revealed that from each of the categories, the third, second and first prize shall be offered, and a commendation for the best young artist will feature.
“The most sterling artist shall be awarded the Zimbabwe Visual Arts Awards Grand Prize,” reads the statement.
Established in 1957, the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare is a museum dedicated to the presentation and conservation of Zimbabwe’s contemporary and modern art and visual heritage. It now has two other regional galleries in Bulawayo and Mutare.
