Zim Volleyball rewarded for compliance, resilience

of African Volleyball (CAVB) for their resilience and compliance to their statutes after the federation approved various courses that will be conducted in the country throughout the year.
ZVA technical director, Erasmus Mupukuta said this on the sidelines of a three-day coaching course that was conducted at Prince Edward School by Herif Elshemerly from Egypt.
The course which had 30 participants drawn from across the country was meant to equip top level coaches with the basic elements of the sport.
Mupukuta said ZVA is set to benefit more as the year progresses with more courses having been lined up already.
“We have just finished an international coaching course for top level coaches, the first of its kind in Africa whose main thrust was on introduction to the beginners, the role of coaches, conditioning players for the game and the psychological aspects of the game.
“To us it is a dream come true indicating progress in our game as coaches have to be reminded of the new developments that have take over in volleyball. These include the tactical aspects, of the game which are revolving around technological use of computers, the art of scouting and spying on our opponents among other issues.
“However, we are anticipating a beach volleyball course this month, a management course in May and another one focusing specifically on referees to be conducted on a date to be announced.
“This I believe is an endorsement of appreciation by CAVB that despite us struggling for the past two or three years we continued to affiliate with them and religiously complied their statues,” Mupukuta said.
ZVA has 60 registered coaches with Masvingo Province holding the record of those who do well at the national youth games.
However, most of them move to Harare once they graduate from their schools, leaving a skewed perception that it is only in the capital where the best players found.
