The Zimbabwe Vollyeball Association are confident that the national teams heading for the Zone Six All-Africa Games qualifiers will do well at the event set for Mozambique this weekend.
A men and a women’s team left Harare on Wednesday by road for Maputo and are expected to arrive today.
ZVA administrator Sibangani Mashasha said he was hopeful the players picked for the adventure will do their best to try and secure a slot for Zimbabwe at the African Games (previously known as All-Africa Games) in Congo-Brazzaville this September.
Douglas Choto, Nyashadzashe Takawira, Keith Machakara, Support Unit power-hitter Kudzai Sabangani and Simbarashe Chidziwa make up the men’s squad while Lydia Mafuta, Progress Gasa, Tsungirirayi Taderera and Viola Muchaoona are the ladies.
“Apart from expecting the team to qualify for the All Africa Games, it’s also a process to see how far the team has made progress, but the sky is the limit for the future,” said Mashasha.
The team had been training from the sand court in Highfield in preparation for the games for the past week
“All payers will get affair chance to play at the games depending on the conditions and the opponents they will be facing.
“We have experienced players like Douglas Choto and Simbarashe Chidziwa who have played in the World League Under-19, Under-21 and Under-23 age groups.
