Zim women’s team prepares for Sevens World Cup

country at the World Cup qualifiers.
Kawonza also believes that taking part at the Middleburg Sevens tournament in South Africa on September 21 will be a big boost to their preparations.
“Every Monday we train together with the Cheetahs to get more good skills while on Wednesdays we train on our own and concentrate on our fitness and then on Sundays we focus on skills, handling the ball well and tackling.
“We are only travelling to Morocco with 12 players. We started with a squad of 24 before trimming it to 16 and we are going to drop four more players in order for us to remain with the required number.
“We are hoping to travel for a warm-up tournament — the Middleburg Sevens — which will be held in South Africa but we are still trying to look for sponsors.
“The Middleburg tournament will give the chance to look at our weaknesses so that we can have enough time to improve.
“Taking part at the Middleburg will be good for the team since we are going for the qualifiers.
“We started training in May and we are hopeful of good results as the training has been going on well,” said Kawonza.
The women team train on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at Old Hararians.
“We have some new blood in our team and they are also doing well so we are hopeful that they will play well,” said Kawonza.
